A placement that supports your growth, in practice and beyond

We know what it’s like to be in your shoes. House of Self was founded by a neurodivergent team of therapists, creatives and practitioners who once sat in the trainee chair too. We understand the mix of excitement, pressure, and vulnerability that comes with building your clinical hours while trying to figure out who you are as a therapist. And we’re here to support that journey, not just clinically, but holistically.

Our placement programme is designed to support trainee therapists who are working towards qualification with a BACP, UKCP, NCPS or equivalent accredited training provider. We welcome students from diploma level and above who are passionate about working relationally, and who are looking to gain clinical experience in a supportive, ethically-led, and future-focused environment.

At House of Self, we take a digital-first view of therapy. Many of our clients prefer the flexibility and accessibility of working online, and we support our therapists to work in a way that honours both the client’s and the therapist’s needs. All our trainees begin by working with clients online, and we also offer occasional in-person placements at our therapeutic space in Shoreditch.

Our work is grounded in relational depth, intersectional thinking, and trauma-aware practice. We believe the work we do behind the scenes to support our therapists is just as important as the work done in the therapy room.

Many trainees leave their course feeling uncertain about how to set up in private practice. At House of Self,

we provide:

Ongoing marketing, brand, and business mentoring
Support to build your private practice identity
Consulting on building a caseload post-placement

Our founding team have backgrounds in marketing, product development,brand strategy, and digital community building. We know how to help you craft a practice that’s not only ethical and effective, but also visible and sustainable.

Whether you choose to continue with us or go independent, you won’t leave without tools to support your next step.

What we offer

Weekly client work (2 to 4 clients, at your own pace)
Digital-first, remote placements with optional in-person work in Shoreditch
Monthly supervision
Clinical check-ins and community support
A space to develop your voice as a practitioner, with reflective feedback and mentoring

We welcome applications from trainees who:

Are studying at diploma level or above
Have completed (or are near completing) their skills practice hours
Are in regular personal therapy
Are student members of BACP, UKCP, NCPS, or equivalent
Want to work relationally and are open to integrative approaches

We don’t believe in performance placements

We’re not here to see how many hours you can squeeze in, or how quickly you can qualify.

We believe in thoughtful, steady, supported development, with time to reflect,get it wrong, build confidence, and grow into the therapist you’re becoming.

How to apply

We open applications for new trainees on a rolling basis throughout the year.

If you’re interested in joining our placement programme, please complete our short application form. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an informal interview and a chance to ask questions about how we work.

We especially welcome applications from neurodivergent, global majority, LGBTQIA+ and underrepresented trainee therapists.
